Memorial Tree Program
You are invited to participate in the Memorial Tree program, which plants trees in the median of Cherokee Boulevard and in other public spaces in Sequoyah Hills. Since the program's inception in the mid 1980's, many such memorial trees are planted along Cherokee Boulevard.
The current charge is $250, which covers the cost of the tree purchase and planting, and $125 for a granite memorial carrying the inscription specified by the donor. Trees are planted twice each year in the Fall and Spring. Trees for Fall planting may be ordered until September 30, and for Spring planting until February 28. A form to order a memorial tree is provided below.
Interested persons are invited to contact Tom or Ann Callcott (525-3181, macallcott@comcast.net) to obtain further information about the program. The Callcott's will also contact donors to determine the tree type, planting location, and memorial inscription. Trees selected must be hardy, disease resistant and suitable for street planting. An attempt is currently made to select trees that have decorative value in different seasons (eg. Dogwood, Cherry and Redbud for Spring bloom, Crepe Myrtle for mid-Summer bloom, and Willow Oaks and Maples for Fall foliage). The KP/SHA association has developed a master plan for tree planting along the Boulevard, which will be used in the future to guide such selections.
